With the announcement of VMware's vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4 this morning, I wanted to do a quick post to give you my thoughts. While I haven’t been able to dig into the deeper portions of the release notes (that will be in another post shortly), there are some changes worth noting.
SRM4 supports replication via NFS, which is absolutely huge. The prior requirement for array based replication was a cost prohibitive factor for many companies. This update alleviates a chunk of that constraint. Thank you, VMware! Add to this the support for vSphere enhancements, such as fault tolerance, and it looks like this product is evolving nicely.
One of my largest concerns still remains the support for desktop virtualization, specifically as it relates to linked clones in the View product. As I dig deeper I’ll keep you posted on my findings.
Let me know your thoughts on SRM4 in the comments.
